Meat Shortage Affects Food Security in Vulnerable Sectors of Florida

Florida, June 1st – More than 140 tons of beef are still awaiting delivery to the Tomas Rojas Rodríguez meat processing plant in the municipality of Florida due to a fuel shortage. This shortage is severely impacting the production, distribution, and consumption of protein in social, educational, and health centers throughout the area, as well as the regulated sales to the general population.

Consequently, local authorities emphasized the importance of adapting strategies for transporting animals destined for slaughter, given the lack of transportation and fuel. This includes resorting to traditional methods such as herding cattle on horseback from nearby locations to official slaughterhouses.

With the exception of Agroindustrial Argentina, the other agricultural production conglomerates in the municipality of Florida are failing to meet their commitments to the meat industry so far in 2026. This agreement is also affected by the debts accumulated by this contracting entity in payments to producers in the region.

The current economic situation and the population’s food demands require immediate, innovative, timely, and serious solutions in times of energy scarcity and resource shortages, with the primary objective of maintaining protection for the most vulnerable sectors and individuals in the region.
