The Fight Against Brucellosis Continues in Florida

Florida, May 26 – The fight against Brucellosis in the livestock population of the municipality of Florida continues, given the risks this infection poses to human life, the health of the herds, and the economy of the producers and the region itself.

According to reports from the Animal Health Department at the Municipal Delegation of Agriculture, to date, nearly 2,000 head of cattle have been affected by Brucellosis on various farms belonging to eight production units.

The largest number of dairy farms currently reporting the outbreak is concentrated at the Romarico Cordero Credit and Services Cooperative (CCS), while efforts to eradicate it are underway at the Frank País, Ernesto Guevara, Rolando Valdivia, Sabino Pupo, and Rodolfo Ramírez Esquivel cooperatives, as well as at the Antonio Maceo and Mártires de Barbados Basic Units of Cooperative Production.

According to updated data from Florida Department of Agriculture, as of the end of April, the Brucella bacteria remained dormant on 37 farms in the municipality, where serological testing of the livestock is underway to certify the end of quarantine.

Health and government authorities continue to warn the public about the consumption of dairy and meat products from infected herds, given the known harm to human health caused by the zoonotic disease known as Brucella.
