Attack on La Vallita Electrical Substation Affects Several Rural Communities in Florida

Florida, August 21 – The unscrupulous theft of transformer oil from the La Vallita electrical substation in the municipality of Florida has created a complex situation regarding the availability of this and other essential services for the lives of people in the main communities, settlements, and neighborhoods currently affected.

Taking advantage of the lack of security and the substation’s isolated location, the criminals failed to consider that hundreds of families and more than three thousand people would suffer the impact of the power outage in that area. This act is being considered an act of sabotage under the current circumstances.

According to information provided by the Defense Zone Directorate, the affected areas include, in addition to La Vallita, parts of La Jagüita, El Paraíso, San Faustino, Otero, La Gloria, and La Pérez Pérez, among other isolated communities.

During the analysis of the issue at the Florida Municipal Defense Council, alternatives were evaluated to expedite assistance to residents of the areas affected by the vandalism of the dielectric oil theft at the La Vallita substation. The importance of increasing timely reporting by the public of suspicious individuals and activities around electrical distribution facilities and their networks in the area was also emphasized.

Although intensive efforts are underway to provide a positive response to the problem, it is not possible to announce with certainty, for at least the next 72 hours, the exact date for the restoration of electrical service to the La Vallita People’s Council.

Authorities from the Ministry of the Interior and other municipal defense agencies are continuing their investigation into the incident at the La Vallita electrical substation.
