Florida, May 8 – From May 4 to 9, the Catch-up Week for the 65th Bivalent Oral Polio Vaccination Campaign is underway in the municipality of Florida. This campaign is for children between one month and three years old who did not receive the vaccine during the first phase due to illness.
Dr. Yailen Pérez Abreu, head of the Immunization Program at the Municipal Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology, and Microbiology, reported that this health initiative is being carried out at the vaccination centers of the town’s two polyclinics by trained personnel.
The doctor advised that, as a crucial precaution, children should not eat or drink anything for 30 minutes before and after receiving the vaccine.
She also noted that the polio vaccine is very safe; adverse reactions are very mild. However, the program includes post-vaccination surveillance; and only prevents receiving the drug if diarrhea or an acute process is present at the time of administering the dose.
