Florida, April 27 – This Saturday, the 28th ordinary session of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power was held in Florida, during its 18th term. Its primary duty is to represent the people in promoting, monitoring, and supporting the implementation of the territory’s economic and social development program in the current phase.
Among the more than 10 topics addressed during the session, the Accountability Report of the Council of Administration on compliance with Law 148 on Food and Nutritional Sovereignty stood out. At the close of the session, delegates called for improved production and control indicators in this area, increased community involvement, and the utilization of vacant lands for planting and new harvests.
The budget execution and the Economic Plan at the close of the first quarter of the year made clear the need for a more rational use of state finances, increased production of goods and services in all sectors, reduced planned losses, and the search for alternatives to generate income and increase export capacity to obtain foreign currency.
In this regard, the people’s representatives warned about the persistence of phenomena such as underreporting and tax evasion by some economic actors.
In its 28th ordinary session, the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power in Florida debated the implementation of the sustainability and primary healthcare program, with concerns focused primarily on the complexities of medical coverage in rural areas and alternatives for improving this service.
Dr. Carlos Morán Giraldo, Director of Health in the province of Camagüey, addressed the plenary session to report on the real limitations, such as the lack of newly graduated doctors being assigned to their clinics. He emphasized the importance of providing differentiated care to those who do take on this responsibility, strengthening academic and ethical training programs in the medical sciences, and effectively utilizing the benefits of solar energy in facilities where it is available.
The agenda for the new ordinary session of the highest body of People’s Power in this Camagüeyan district also included a report from its president, Evelyn Márquez Álvarez, regarding the fulfillment of her duties and responsibilities.
After listening to the opinions of delegates and guests regarding the president’s presentation, Ramona Díaz Guerra, Head of the Department of Relations with Local Organs of People’s Power in Camagüey, emphasized aspects that she must promote and oversee more closely within her purview. These include personnel policy within the government, improving grassroots communication and control, popular participation, and the evaluation and implementation of the Economic and Social Program in each People’s Council.
As a result of a nomination and consultation process, the members of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power in Florida elected delegate Alexis Fenelo Peláez to serve as Vice President of that local body, and approved the awarding of the 2025 Outstanding Leaders designation to educators Dayamí Monedero Veitía and Odalis Zulueta Nocedo, to Magdalis Zayas Valdivia, Assistant Director of the Pediatric Hospital, and to Félix Roberto Rizo Ramos, Director of the Department of Attention to Combatants in the Municipal Administration Council.
The Banking program at the close of the first quarter of the current calendar, the accountability of the Popular Council of the Urban Center and the Permanent Commission of Work of the Local Bodies and the use of the Territorial Contribution in the municipality, compliance with the measures for energy saving based on the current situation and the approval of the new Communal Services Company, completed the matters of interest for the delegates in the most recent ordinary session of the Municipal Assembly held this weekend in Florida.
