Florida’s Maternal and Child Health Program will continue to defend its best indicators

Florida, Feb. 11 – With more than 25 children born alive so far this year, and one child who died before reaching the age of one, the municipality of Florida renewed its commitments to defend the Maternal and Child Care Program (PAMI) during 2025.

These commitments include achieving early detection of pregnancy and the medical, social, family and community protection of pregnant women, guaranteeing specialized assistance in Public Health units for cases of high prenatal risk, and maintaining active surveillance by the Family Doctor on the behavior and care of pregnant women within its radius of action.

Similarly, PAMI managers at the municipal level and their colleagues in each polyclinic promote actions to prevent the incidence of teenage pregnancy and to ensure that couples with plans to create a family join the Preconception Consultations and Sexual and Reproductive Health Counseling.

These and other activities of the Maternal and Child Care Program of the municipality of Florida aim to ensure the survival and quality of life of the mother and the newborn, based on the prevention and care of diseases associated with pregnancy, family responsibility and the enjoyment of the social rights provided for this period in the female existence.

Despite the country’s difficult economic situation, the municipality of Florida ended 2024 with an infant mortality rate of 5.1 per 1,000 live births, and a mother and baby survival rate above 98 percent, with respect to the number of births attended in the territory.
