Florida, August 3 – Outstanding athlete Erly Cabrera brought honor to the municipality of Florida, Camagüey, and Cuba by winning the silver medal at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games. The multi-sport event, held in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, witnessed her outstanding performance on the badminton court.
Cabrera achieved her historic medal competing alongside Tamara Oropesa in the women’s doubles event, reaching the tournament final as part of the Cuban delegation. Her performance establishes her as one of the most prominent figures in the sport in the region and reaffirms the sporting talent that exists in her homeland.
The silver medalist is an eighth-semester student at the Camilo Cienfuegos Adult Education Center; thus, the young woman demonstrates that it is possible to balance the demands of high-level competition with her education.
The faculty of the educational institution rejoiced at the news. Both colleagues and teachers expressed their pride and joy at seeing one of their students shine in the elite of multidisciplinary sports in the region, becoming a role model for new generations of Floridians.
