Florida, Oct. 16.- Leonor Pérez Cabrera elementary school was awarded the title of host of the municipal event for World Food Day, this Wednesday, October 16, a recognition that supports the commendable work carried out in this educational center in favor of food sovereignty and nutritional education.
With a school garden classified as a National Reference, the Leonor Pérez school, directed by the Master in Education Sciences Martha Morgan Soroa, is distinguished by making decisions to provide healthy food to its students and generating actions that allow them to promote a food culture in them.
Since last October 14, the General Directorate of Education has been developing the Day for World Food Day, presided over this year by the motto The right to food for a better life and future.
Special morning meetings, presentations by interest groups and scientific societies related to food and nutritional education, and productive work in self-consumption, school gardens and farms, stand out among the proposals to highlight the date of October 16.
It is expected that the Model Canteen Status will be ratified or granted to several schools in the territory; culinary art festivals and classes will be held with an emphasis on nutritional education and sustainable food production; in addition to meetings of food handlers.
