In Florida, a day of tribute to Jesús Orta Ruiz

Florida, Sep. 10 – With the reading of the book Estampas y Elegías, the Technical Council of school librarians of Florida began a day of homage to Jesús Orta Ruiz, El Indio Naborí, on the 102nd anniversary of his birth.

The program of activities will conclude on September 30, date of Indio Naborí’s birthday, and will have its greatest impact on educational institutions and the Center for Documentation and Pedagogical Information (CDIP) aims to highlight the remarkable literary and human merits of the Cuban intellectual who stands out for his deep attachment in the great masses, traceable even in his pseudonym by observing the balance of action and thought that always existed between the poet and his people.

Literary talks, poetry recital, conversations and the promotion of Orta Ruiz’s works are some of the actions planned for the day that aims to bring to the memory of the outstanding poet recognized with the National Literature Award, the Felix Varela Order of First Grade and the status of Hero of Labor of the Republic of Cuba.

For the current 2024-2025 school year, Florida’s school librarians are organizing several activities in line with the National Reading Program, committed to encouraging students’ interest in books, fostering an approach to the most exalted of universal and Cuban literature.
