Florida, Jul 19.- Different agro-productive sites of the Urban Farm and other social sectors of the municipality of Florida received the visit of tour number 95 of the National Group of Urban, Suburban and Family Agriculture, which came here with the task of reviewing the recovery and progress of this food production formula, after the impact of the intense rains in June.
The Organopónico of the Microdistrict of the José Martí Popular Council, the self-consumption orchard of the Leonor Pérez Cabrera elementary school, the sowing and breeding areas of the farmer Leonardo Tena Barrera, associated with the Camilo Cienfuegos Credit and Services Cooperative and the exchange on farmer Fidencio Rodríguez’s land, where the new Florida Seed Farm will be implemented were under the magnifying glass of the new control.
The importance of increasing the use of planting spaces, the intercropping of crops and the use of techniques such as impaling and biological control against pests and diseases, were recommendations from the specialists of the National Group of Urban, Suburban and Family Agriculture on their 95th tour of this municipality.
The exchange with the advanced producer Leonardo Tena Barrera was the highlight of the visit, who, after explaining the damage caused by the rains in his plantations of various crops, offered a master class related to poultry farming and the use of organic manures and fertilizers for the benefit of productivity.
Before leaving Florida, visitors reviewed the new work strategy conceived to measure the performance of the Urban Farm based on six basic pillars: structure, representatives, production increases, use of fruit trees and active presence of the movement of sowing and harvesting food in the community.
