Vaccination campaign against leptospira carried out in Florida

Florida, Sep 10.- Vaccination against leptospira to risk groups is carried out in the two vaccination centers of the health areas of the municipality of Florida, with the aim of preventing this disease caused by a bacterium that may be present in the urine of rodents, dogs, cows, pigs, horses and wild animals.

Among the people scheduled to be immunized are farmers, rice farmers, ranchers, sugarcane farmers, community service, water and sewage workers, as well as farmers from the productive bases exposed to contact with some of the animals that transmit leptospirosis.

Dr. Yusdania Soroa Abreu, a specialist in Zoonosis at the Municipal Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology of the territory, reported that the disease manifests itself, in principle, as a flu-like illness with fever, headache, muscle aches and general malaise, for this reason , before the appearance of some of these symptoms it is necessary to consult the Family Doctor immediately, for its rapid treatment.

The specialist added that as a preventive measure it is recommended to avoid immersion in lagoons and other aquariums, chlorinate or boil water for human consumption and to wash kitchen utensils, combat rodents in homes and their surroundings, in addition to keeping patios and land free. of waste, rubble and everything that constitutes a refuge for transmitting agents of this pathology.
