Florida, May 13 – With heads held high and hands in the soil, farmers in the municipality of Florida celebrated the municipal ceremony for May 17th, amidst the cruel restrictions imposed by the United States blockade against the Cuban people.
Held at the Frank País García Credit and Services Cooperative, the simple yet meaningful event brought together prominent producers and representatives of the sector, who, on behalf of the more than three thousand members in Florida, reaffirmed their support for the Revolution, their commitment to continue contributing food, and their faith in Fidel Castro’s ideals.
The fraternal gathering also served to award the Vanguard status in the emulation for Cuban Farmers’ Day to farmers Fidencio Rodríguez Maya, from the Carlos Díaz Agricultural Production Cooperative (CPA); Juan Almaguer Pérez, from the Frank País Cooperative; and Danilo Marrero Mesa, from the Frank País García Credit and Services Cooperative.
This latter entity was also collectively recognized for its achievements in winning the bid to host the municipal event commemorating the 65th anniversary of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP) in Florida, while the Juan Gualberto Gómez Credit and Services Cooperative (CCS) was awarded the title of National Vanguard.
The recognition for the performance of rural women during this period went to Catalina María Cervantes of the Camilo Cienfuegos CCS and Liset Campo Mestre, from the Frank País Credit and Services Cooperative.
In summarizing the May 17th event in Florida, Nayuris Garbizo Matamoros, president of the local bureau of the agricultural organization, congratulated the members of this productive force and urged them to persevere, seek solutions to their challenges, and remain steadfast in their commitment to the achievements of socialism.
