Municipal event held in Florida for Latin American Medicine Day (+ Post)

Florida, Dec. 1.- The municipal event for Latin American Medicine Day held in Florida constituted a well-deserved tribute to the thousands of men and women who work in the Health Sector and a tribute to Carlos J. Finlay on the eve of the 130th anniversary of his birth to be commemorated on December 3.

During the meeting, chaired by the highest political and Government authorities in the territory, the «Manuel Piti Fajardo Rivero» Distinction was awarded to doctors Ana María Morffi Pino and Juana Menéndez Coto, along with nursing graduates Lerisys Feria Téllez and Yarisleydis Crespo Pérez, workers with more than 20 years of experience in the Public Health System.

The political-cultural activity was also a framework to highlight a dozen outstanding groups in their daily work, including the Manuel Piti Fajardo Municipal Hospital, the Leopoldo Rey Sampayo Pediatric Hospital, the North and South polyclinics, the nursing homes, the dental clinic of adults and the Regionalized Medical Emergency System.

In the «Act» a heartfelt tribute was paid to the memory and humanist work of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro Ruz, within the framework of the seventh anniversary of his physical disappearance.

Latin American Medicine Day is celebrated every December 3, a day on which the birth of the wise Cuban doctor Carlos J. Finlay is commemorated. It is also celebrated in the nation as Health Worker’s Day.
