Florida, December 10 – The Department of Agriculture at the Florida Municipal Administration Council recognized the efforts of several local producers who have achieved positive results in cultivating fresh vegetables, greens, and herbs in various urban gardens, plots, and intensive orchards.
Individuals like Fidencio Rodríguez Maya at the Carlos Díaz Agricultural Production Cooperative (CPA); Danilo Medina Mesa at the Frank País Agricultural Production Cooperative (CCS); and Keiny Rivero Reyes in La Vallita are among those who persevere in planting and harvesting food despite shortages, limitations, and bureaucratic hurdles.
This leading group in urban, suburban, and family agriculture also includes the leaders and collectives of the José Martí Intensive Garden and the Sorbitol Organic Orchard, located in the Ibarra and Agramonte People’s Councils, where raised beds overflowing with vegetables and a strong will to move forward are flourishing.
The local government’s recognition of each of the outstanding urban and suburban farmers in Florida, who have excelled in their agricultural production, should serve as an incentive to the other sites linked to the Urban Farm movement in the municipality, with the aim of providing fresh food and easing prices for the working people.
