Once again Bay of Pigs, and once again the same slogan: We shall overcome!

April 2025 – As we approach the end of the first half of April, Cubans open the doors of historical memory to welcome the new anniversary of the Bay of Pigs Victory.

As usual, during these days we will reiterate the eternal homage to the men who, 64 years ago, did not hesitate even for an instant to risk their lives to defend the independence and sovereignty of the homeland against the mercenary aggression organized, paid, armed and supported by the imperialist government of the United States.

On the coming 15th, tribute will be paid to the combatants of the Anti-Aircraft Directorate of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) in remembrance of the champions who on that same date in 1961 bravely rejected the enemy bombing of Cuban military airports; while on the 16th, the 64th anniversary of the declaration of the Socialist character of the Revolution headed by Fidel Castro Ruz will be celebrated.

On April 17, Air Defense Day, the pilots who participated in the Battle of Giron will be remembered in Cuba and their actions made it possible for the combined forces of the Rebel Army, the National Revolutionary Police and the Militias to advance on the positions occupied by the mercenary brigade to establish a beachhead on the southern coast of the province of Matanzas.

On the other hand, April 19 was sown in history as the date of the first great defeat of the Yankee empire in Latin America; and it can never be forgotten that this defeat was suffered by the powerful northern neighbor under the heroic fire and bravery of young people and veterans of a united people willing to give their all to safeguard the existence of the recently launched social Revolution.

Victory Week; Bay of Pigs Day; Pride of the Sacred Homeland are the days from April 15 to 19, a space dedicated to pay tribute to the heroes and martyrs of that glorious epic, and a special tribune to remind the Yankees of today that as Antonio Maceo said, “whoever tries to take over Cuba will only collect the dust of its blood-soaked soil if he does not perish in the struggle”.

Eternal glory in Florida for Justo Martínez Veliz, Ciro Martín Guzmán and Nildo Fonseca! Eternal gratitude for those who fell in those battles, such as the young Rolando Valdivia, and for the combatants of that heroic deed who rest under the flag of the lone star, reigning alone and free in the sky of the sacred Homeland!

Once again at the Bay of Pigs, and once again the same slogan that summoned the combat on that stage: We shall overcome!
