Florida, Apr 17.- The members of the University Chair for the Elderly of the municipality of Florida recalled the epic of Playa Girón during a meeting held at Rubén Martínez Villena Municipal Library of the territory.
During the activity, the grandparents remembered this military victory over a force recruited and financed by the United States government, in which the expression of patriotic and moral values embodied by the overwhelming majority of Cubans was evident.
It was recalled at the conference that young people such as Ciro Martín Delgado and Justo Martínez Veliz (Bebito), Emilio Cuervo Pérez de Corcho and Gregorio Domínguez, who heroically contributed to the defense of the integrity of the homeland.
Among the Floridians who participated in the fighting at Playa Girón and dealt imperialism the first major defeat in Latin America, the names of Nildo Fonseca Sánchez (resides abroad) and the deceased Rolando Valdivia Fernández, Manuel Suárez de the O, Fernando Taboada Sánchez and Orestes Teodoro Pérez Martínez.
During the meeting, Ms. Isabel Pérez Ávila, a Research Specialist from that cultural institution, promoted the books Niños Héroes de Playa Girón, by journalist and historian José Manuel Mayo Fernández, which narrates the courage with which the young men turned artillerymen faced the aggression mercenary.
