Students from Florida participate in a tour focused on local heritage

Florida, Oct. 27 — The «Florida Passion» (La pasión floridana) interest group—dedicated to the study of the municipality’s history and composed of ninth-grade students from the José Martí secondary school—took center stage during an event focused on exploring local heritage.

Guided by history teacher Olga Lidia Barrueto, the students attended a presentation on the heritage significance of José Martí Park and toured the five commemorative structures located there.

The presentation was led by Margarita Fernández Cervantes, Director of the Municipal Museum (who holds a Master of Science degree), and Lisney Gómez Ramos. They explained to the students the historical and cultural importance of José Martí Park—an iconic landmark in the municipality of Florida, recognized for its heritage value.

During the tour of the five commemorative structures, the students viewed busts of José Martí, Máximo Gómez, and Antonio Maceo, a statue dedicated to mothers, and a plaque representing the final phase of the struggle for national liberation. These elements are part of the heritage collection preserved within the park.
