Florida lay judges receive training on gender-based violence

Florida, Oct. 26 – The lay judges of the municipality of Florida received a training seminar on gender violence given by Criminal Judge Liset Pérez Sánchez, with the presence, in addition, of the president of the Popular Municipal Court of the territory, Kirenia Marrero Fernández.
At the meeting, Judge Liset referred that gender violence is a multi-causal and complex phenomenon that crosses the social fabric and severely affects women, girls and boys.
She stressed that it is a manifestation of the historically unequal power relations between men and women, but that it also encompasses those who are considered to defy gender norms, and explained the different types of violence that exist.
During the seminar Miriam Susana Baryolo Urias, Olga Lidia Cruz Fernandez and Yitsy Varona Martinez, local lay judges, who actively participate in all the judicial processes carried out in the Municipal Court with high responsibility in the assigned cases, were also recognized.
