Florida, Sep. 28 – The farmer Julian Diaz Torres, from the farm «La Caridad», linked to La Unidad Empresarial de Base, San Emilio in the municipality of Florida, is part of that group of small farmers who do not give up in the face of difficulties and grow little by little in food production.
In spite of the limitations of fuel and other resources, Julian is currently planting four hectares of yucca and plantain; he is promoting the preparation of land to plant another five hectares of corn, beans and other varieties of plantain, in addition to promoting the breeding of rabbits, with more than 50 specimens at present.
With less than one hectare of land under exploitation, this usufructuary, exponent of suburban agriculture in the southern periphery of Florida, speaks with enthusiasm of new productive plans and only demands any possible support to improve his farm, and with it, fulfill the task of bringing food to the people’s table.
Julian is aware that everything he does and can do is for the benefit of the community and himself, convinced that the path is made by walking and that it is the land that can bear the fruits to achieve the longed-for food sovereignty.
