Let’s do more to take care of our environment

The current inability to collect waste and the insufficient citizen awareness of the importance of preserving the environment, multiply the challenges in the municipality of Florida in the face of the need to have a shining city without pollutants that endanger the collective health.

Certainly it is increasingly difficult to dispose of domestic waste when there is no current guarantee of a systematic and fully efficient collection by the Community Services entity, but as citizens we must not forget that we also have a responsibility to take care of the cleanliness and hygiene of our living environment, because the consequences of the accumulation of garbage on every corner and the proliferation of micro dumps in communities directly affect those who live in them.

In no way do we exempt the “Comunales” collective from its state and social responsibility, which must achieve better organization and efficiency in the work of waste collection to optimize the use of the little fuel available today and clean up our city as much as possible.

But we must understand that as citizens we can contribute much more with our behavior to avoid the proliferation of micro dumps of garbage that derive in environmental and sanitary risks that threaten our quality of life in each block or neighborhood.

Within the family and also in schools it is important to encourage more respect for the environment and knowledge to preserve it for the welfare of all in each community, where undoubtedly more action is needed to counteract the behavior and indiscipline of those who throw garbage in an excessive manner in any public space, street, corner and even in ditches and sewers, which affects the environment of the city and causes the emergence of diseases.

It is necessary to teach children that a nylon bag can take up to 40 years to degrade and that during this period it contaminates the soil and the quality of the environment, so it should not be thrown irresponsibly anywhere.

We should also point out the importance of properly disposing of liquid waste, some of which is even toxic and leaches into the soil and can even contaminate fresh groundwater.

There are many things we can do and also avoid doing in order to protect the quality of the air, water, soil and environment in which we live, with everyone and for the good of all.
