Minister of Food Industry meets with Floridian fishery workers (+ Audio & Post)

El ministro de la Industria Alimentaria, Alberto López Díaz, agradeció el acompañamiento de las autoridades locales de Florida y la franqueza del intercambio con los pescadores.

Florida, Aug. 6 – As part of the exchange of the Ministry of Food Industry with more than 25 thousand fishermen in the country, the head of the sector, Alberto Lopez Diaz, held a meeting with those linked to the units of Base Playa Florida and La Tomatera, along with other actors licensed for non-state commercial, sport or recreational fishing in this Camagüey municipality.

The meeting was held here with the purpose of evaluating the implementation of norms such as Law 129, the Fishing Law, and the agreements and flexibilities of the Council of Ministers in this area; to clarify doubts and listen to criteria, concerns and deficiencies that limit the fishing activity in the territory, in addition to the orderly sale of seafood products.

Among the concerns listened by Alberto López Díaz on behalf of the Floridian fishermen were the delay in some procedures for licenses and permits for the performance of their activities, the limitations in the use of fishing gear and the lack of response to the stop of the Florida Beach Ice Plant.

As part of the answers requested by the Minister to the different executives of the sector, the president of the Cuban Fishing Business Group, Armando Posada Lóriga, commented on internal investments and purchases of resources in the exterior destined to improve the availability of vessels and the necessary logistics to increase the catches of species in the platform and aquaculture, including a new Ice Plant before the closing of 2024.

Summarizing the exchange with fishermen in Florida Beach, the head of the Food Industry called to order that activity with respect to the laws, promote prioritized destinations in commercialization and apply incentives to private parties to gradually lower sales prices to the population.

» Despite serious shortages of energy resources, the will of the country in its support to the fishing activity must generate greater order, discipline and productive response in favor of feeding the people», said the head of the Food Industry, before thanking the welcome and the frankness of the meeting.
