Florida, June 26 – The experiences and results of the Florida Agrometeorological Station collective in the task of contributing to the development of local agricultural production were presented by Ibrianny Arredondo at the 11th National Meeting of Agricultural Meteorology, which is being held this week in the city of Havana.
«Agrometeorology at the service of agricultural production. A contribution to food sovereignty in the municipalities of Florida and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes de Camagüey», is the title of the conference given at the national event by the renowned meteorologist of this territory, on the services of forecasts, reports, warnings and early alerts provided by the Florida station to local productive units in relation to weather behavior.
These agrometeorological services are provided here since October 2014 with weekly and monthly frequencies indistinctly; and include predictions on the behavior of rainfall and other climate variables, as well as agricultural drought warnings, and forest fire risk forecasts.
At present, there are more than 30 units that permanently hire the services of the aforementioned scientific unit in Florida, among producers of the agricultural and sugar sectors, to whom all the information on the behavior of the weather is very valuable for the promotion and care of their different crops.
