The best Florida referees are recognized this year

Florida, Dec. 5.- This December 4, the date on which Sports Referee Day was commemorated in Cuba, the municipal management of athletic activity in Florida congratulated those in the territory who assume the responsibility of dispensing justice in different types of competitions. .

In a special way, those judges and referees who stood out for their performance in top-level events in national and international instances during 2023 were recognized.

In the female branch, Marices Valdivieso Álvarez, who was a line judge in the Badminton competition at the most recent Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, was selected in Florida as the best referee.

Among the men, Karel Arredondo, from the soccer discipline, received the award for the best Florida referee this year, and in the national category, the recognition went to Fidel Basnueva Lemagne, who has participated for several years in the main Cuban baseball event. .

As an activist with the best results, Luis Varón Pérez was awarded, and in the Ball Sports category, Yosvany Simón Martínez, both Baseball referees, was awarded.

In Combat Sports, Osmani Matos Romero, from Judo, was recognized, and the award for the youngest referee in 2023 went to Airalih Rosabal Ramírez, from the Taekwondo discipline.

In the specialty of sports for the disabled, the most outstanding was Professor Oscar Thompson Rivero, of Athletics, and in the categories of Physical Culture, Rapid Strength and Endurance, Recreation and Education, the recognitions went to Professors Beatriz Cruz Fraga, Milagros and Irisnaldo Rodríguez Martínez, and Yusimí Horta Molina, respectively.

Since 2001, Sports Referee Day has been celebrated in Cuba every December 4, as a tribute to Amado Maestri from Havana, who defended the revolutionary students, who, led by José Antonio Echeverría, took to the field of the Gran Stadium del Cerro, current Latin American, in protest against the bloody dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista.
