Florida, Oct. 28.- Student Daila María Rodríguez, from the Rolando Valdivia Fernández Rural Pre-University Institute (IPR), from the municipality of Florida, won first place in the National Spelling Contest held at the Carlos Marx Vocational Pre-University Institute of Exact Sciences , from the city of Matanzas, crowned champion in the renowned contest.
The 12th grade Floridian and absolute representative of Camagüey in the national contest, she previously participated in the provincial contest where she competed in various tests and the jury awarded her first place and the Gold Medal.
The National Spelling Bee was held from last Tuesday the 24th to the 26th of this month, with the participation of 16 students and their teachers representing the country’s higher secondary educational institutions, including the Camilo Cienfuegos Military Schools.
The event, which contributes to encouraging knowledge of the mother tongue and reading habits, also becomes an excellent way to prepare for the Higher Education entrance exams, as spelling is one of the evaluation requirements in all disciplines.
