Florida, Sep 18.- Coaches and students from the three sports teams of the Florida territory met this Saturday at the Leidys Oquendo Valdés Court to officially inaugurate the new school year of athletic education, corresponding to the period 2023-2024.
Present at the opening ceremony were authorities from the Municipal Assembly of Popular Power, Floridian sports glories of all time and a representation of students, athletes and professors from the Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz University of Camagüey, including its rector, the doctor of sciences Santiago Lajes Choy.
As part of the start ceremony of the new sports year, on this day tribute was paid to the deceased basketball glory, Leidys Oquendo Valdés, with the presence, on the court that now bears her name, of former athletes, coaches and former teammates of the Floridian on the Panthers team that represents the province of Camagüey.
After the tribute, a friendly match was held between teachers and students of the Camagüey academic institution and a mix of practitioners and veterans of the Basketball discipline in the municipality of Florida, a territory in which activities will begin this Monday, September 18. training in 24 sports disciplines.
