Hundreds of families and people in the municipality of Florida in vulnerable situations, in critical social situation and with low economic solvency benefited from the delivery of means and resources during 2024 with the objective of improving their quality of life.
The Cuban State’s policy of not leaving anyone homeless, with the support of the Attention, Prevention and Social Assistance Programs, remained active during the period, and reached the 11 People’s Councils and each of the population settlements in the territory with this type of assistance.
The delivery of household appliances, beds, mattresses, toiletries and personal items, clothing, footwear, food modules, financial support and the provision of care services to bedridden patients and elderly people alone, among others, are examples of the validity of the human work of the Revolution in the field of Social Security and Social Assistance in that period.
Among the beneficiaries of such efforts in Florida were mothers with three or more children, disabled citizens, sick people in a state of prostration, children with low prevalence diseases, oncology patients, minors without family support, senior citizens and combatants, just to mention some of the categories of those assisted.
In the midst of the country’s complex economic scenario, the municipal Social Security department, together with government structures and entities, also promoted the incorporation into employment of people considered vulnerable who can be incorporated into socially useful work, as a strategic formula to improve their living conditions.
Undoubtedly, 2025 will bring new challenges for Social Work in Florida, including the identification of other cases of vulnerability in families; improving the performance of the commissions and Social Workers in each district of the municipality and, above all, placing in the most necessary place, the resources that the State, with the support of the budget, allocates for this altruistic and solidary mission.
