Social work in Florida remained strong in 2025

December 2025 – Throughout 2025, the municipality of Florida implemented a significant set of prevention, assistance, and social work policies aimed at preserving the rights of vulnerable individuals and families.

As a result, more than 1,150 households facing extreme economic hardship received direct state protection in the form of monetary and service benefits, as well as the distribution of essential resources, including food, sheets, towels, beds, mattresses, and shoes.

Among those receiving social assistance in Florida during the year were orphaned children and children whose parents were serving prison sentences, elderly people living alone, people with disabilities, veterans of the Revolution, and mothers affected by the population growth trend, among others.

The commitment to treating others as human beings, enshrined in Fidel Castro Ruz’s political testament, was further demonstrated by the more than 600 residents of Florida who joined the Family Support System. The program offers dignified employment to unemployed citizens, along with implementing transformative initiatives in various community councils and neighborhoods throughout the territory.

Next year, the professionals and activists tasked with guiding the work of Prevention and Social Assistance at the Florida Municipal Labor Directorate face challenges, including reaching every home where hardship and chronic poverty are hidden, completing the staff of social workers, and upholding the principles of human solidarity and the altruistic spirit of the Revolution.
