The risks of climate change (+Post)

Florida, Oct. 21— Muñoz Dam in the municipality of Florida is looking to the skies, seeking to recover from the depressed water volume caused by the persistence of drought during the rainiest periods of recent years.

With a capacity to store around 120 million cubic meters of this vital resource, the aforementioned reservoir currently produces (according to unofficial sources) just over 30 million, a reality that impacts food production plans, especially the planting of rice and other crops in the southern part of Florida.

The gigantic construction, the result of the hydraulic will promoted by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, includes a five-kilometer-long concrete curtain to contain the water and a powerful floodgate to evacuate the liquid if it exceeds the established level.

A tour of its grounds reveals how weeds and trees have taken center stage in the vast spaces once occupied by the water reservoir, a spectacle that must have been impressive considering the size of the Muñoz Dam.

For those who lived through those moments, the images of today are a gift for the memory.
