Florida, September 9 – The Center for Documentation and Information in Education (CDIP) in Florida joined the commemoration of International Journalists’ Day this Monday to pay tribute to the courage and ethics of those who practice this noble profession around the world.
This date was established in honor of the Czech journalist Julius Fucik, executed by the Nazis in 1943 and a symbol of the fight for truth and freedom of expression.
As a central part of this celebration, the CDIP promoted the reading and analysis of Julius Fucik’s book «Reportaje al pie de la gallo» (Reportage at the Foot of the Gallows), a fundamental work that compiles the author’s writings during his imprisonment between 1942 and 1943, under Gestapo custody.
Translated into more than 90 languages, this work is a stark testimony to the anti-fascist struggle and a legacy of professional integrity and human resilience. Fucik documented torture, prison conditions, and the psychology of resistance, without betraying his fellow Communist Party members, making his work a timeless example of ethical consistency.
These activities seek to highlight the text’s current relevance, inviting reflection on modern challenges such as misinformation, political polarization, and attacks on the press—issues that are particularly critical in Palestine and several Latin American nations.
This initiative honors Fucik’s legacy and strengthens the institutional mission of training communicators committed to truth and justice. In a world where information is power, Reportaje al pie de la gallows remains a beacon of inspiration for new generations.
