Cuban Librarian’s Day in Florida has begun

Florida, May 21 – The Day of the Cuban Librarian began in Florida and will last until June 7, this year dedicated to school libraries, with a program of activities in educational institutions, a space for inclusion, promotion and encouragement of reading as an essential element in the process of social transformation.

Literary meetings, the Books for my school campaign, workshops on children’s and young people’s literature, gatherings and presentations of works are included in the activities planned, as well as competitions in different modalities related to the work of librarians, donations of texts and exhibitions of classic titles from the national and foreign scene.

On the Day of the Cuban Librarian, there will be exchanges with new and experienced professionals and cultural events will be organized in schools, an opportunity to recognize these specialists.

Instituted by the government through Decree Law 86 of 1981, the Day of the Cuban Librarian is celebrated every June 7 in honor of the birth of Antonio Bachiller y Morales, one of the country’s distinguished intellectuals, considered the father of Cuban bibliography.
