Administration Council evaluated actions aimed at correcting distortions and boosting local economy

Florida, Mar. 4 – Different issues related to the Government’s Projections to correct distortions and drive the economy, together with others included in the lines and actions of the improvement of the system of the People’s Power were on the agenda of the second ordinary session of the Council of the Municipal Administration of Florida in the current month.

This time, the executive body of the local government focused its attention on the report on the main economic indicators of the previous year, the progress of the banking process, the current results in food production, the performance of the sugar harvest and the response to the demands of the population, among other priorities for territorial growth.

At the end of 2024, Florida’s economic and productive results were below expectations, with negative figures in physical production, net sales and merchandise circulation.

At this point, the Administration Council recommended that the entities with the greatest incidence in this setback implement alternatives to increase their productions and capture income, while other units such as the Empresa Mayorista de Productos Alimenticios y otros bienes de consumo (EMPA), the Shirt and Tobacco Factories, Acuiflor, Acopio, La Forestal, Transportation, Otero Self-consumption, Aqueduct and Sewage, besides the local Agriculture and Livestock and Commerce and Gastronomy should respect more the informative discipline on the economic indicators.

During the plenary meeting of the Municipal Administration Council, it was also acknowledged that it is impossible to speak of progress in the process of bankarization while there are still 27 entities without direct debiting their payrolls, and there are more than 1300 self-employed workers and 22 MSMEs that do not make deposits in local banks, thus incurring in tax evasion and cash hoarding.

The agency’s own analysis of the agri-food tasks emphasized the persistent non-compliance with the milk collection plan in the territory and supported the measures underway to counteract it; while the harvest, it was said, continues to be affected fundamentally by the lack of electricity, instability in the milling of the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes sugar mill, excess of burnt sugar cane and problems with material resources, fuel and transportation equipment.

The Florida Administration Council agreed to carry out an evaluation of the public utility, social purpose, results and popular appreciation of the different local development projects approved in this municipality.
