Fighting sugarcane fires, a task for everyone

Florida, Feb. 21 – The accidental fires in sugarcane plantations in the municipality of Florida are again one of the greatest enemies for the normal development of the sugarcane harvest; they have become a dangerous phenomenon that requires extreme vigilance, timely denunciation and general condemnation of the causes and conditions that provoke them.

During the current harvest, and according to preliminary figures, only in the agricultural area of Empresa Agroindustrial Argentina some 12 thousand tons of sugar cane have been affected as a consequence of the out-of-control fires.

The burnings unleashed in the sugarcane fields, as well as those coming from neighboring areas, not only put at risk the productive capacity and the economic results of the entities affected by this scourge; they constitute above all a danger to human life and the habitable infrastructure in communities and isolated areas of the rural part of the municipality of Florida.

Consequently, the responsibility to prevent, warn, fight and quell fires in weeds, pastures and other places near sugarcane plantations corresponds to everyone, in a collective battle against irresponsibility, carelessness and even the possible intention of damaging the economic recovery of the municipality and the country.
