Florida, Jan. 28 – With the slogan “Beat Leprosy, end the stigma and advocate for mental wellbeing”, ProSalud specialists together with dermatologists and nurses from the municipality of Florida developed several activities in honor of World Leprosy Day, whose celebration coincides with the third Sunday of January.
Educational talks in different Family Doctor’s offices and grandparents’ circles, as well as conducting surveys to promote the “Zero Leprosy by 2030” Program are some of the actions developed during these days in the municipality.
Leonor Addis Gonzalez, a licensed nurse, responsible for the program at the local Municipal Center of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology, informed the population that, in case of any lesion or loss of sensitivity in the skin, the best thing to do is to go to the family doctor’s office to assess the course of action to be followed.
The actions carried out in Florida to commemorate World Leprosy Day are aimed at raising awareness about this disease and reducing the stigma towards those who suffer from it.
