Families evacuated due to tropical cyclone threat return to Playa Florida

Florida, Nov 9.- The families of Playa Florida, protected in safer places since last Tuesday, returned to their homes after the threat of Hurricane Rafael dissipated, whose path was far from the province of Camagüey.

More than 200 residents of the Florida coastal community were moved to safe places, taking into account at the time the threat of the intense rains associated with that tropical cyclone and the high degree of vulnerability of the southern settlement facing the Caribbean Sea, precisely where it formed the Hurricane that hit the west of the country with category 3.

During the evacuation process, the majority of the residents of Playa Florida decided to move to relatives’ homes in the Florida capital city, and about 80 residents of that fishing town were protected at the Rigoberto Corcho Rural Basic Secondary School, located in the council. popular San Antonio.

The municipal authorities mobilized a fleet of buses and cargo trucks to guarantee a safe return to their homes of these fishing families, protected for two days in safe places against the possible threat of Hurricane Rafael, always on the basis of the popular principle and the Cuban Civil Defense that “it is better to be safe than sorry.”
