Florida, Nov. 7 – In view of the threat of heavy rains associated with hurricane Rafael, the Municipal Delegation of Agriculture in Florida oriented the cooperatives and entities of the agricultural sector of the territory to adopt the measures foreseen to avoid loss of human lives, production or animal mass during the possible transit of the hydrometeorological phenomenon through areas of the municipality.
In response to the agreements adopted by the Municipal Defense Council of Florida, the harvesting of agricultural products that may deteriorate and the protection of crops in low-lying areas at risk of flooding should be brought forward, where possible.
Likewise, farmers were advised to keep cattle herds and small livestock in safe places, and to avoid activities that, in conditions of heavy rains, winds and electrical discharges, pose a danger to human life.
Likewise, resources were made available to guarantee the milking and sale of milk to the industry during the days in which the weather conditions continue to deteriorate.
Other details about the measures adopted in the local agricultural sector are offered by Yudier Peña Vargas, deputy superintendent for Agriculture and Azcuba programs, at the Florida Municipal Administration Council, in an interview conducted by journalist Pedro Pablo Sáez Herrera.
