Young people from Playa Florida trained to implement the Mi Costa environment project

Florida, Oct. 7.- Young people from the community of Playa Florida are trained in the deployment of the international project Mi Costa, an initiative aimed at strengthening the resilience of the population and marine ecosystems to the effects of climate change in the territories of the southern Cuban coast.

The representation of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) in the territory, highlights the importance of providing knowledge and skills on this problem and the Tarea Vida to young Yosvani Marín Espinosa, Biology student at the Central Marta Abreu University of Las Villas, and Arisday Artola Guerra, principal of the Heriberto Martín Guzmán elementary school in Playa Florida, both residents of that coastal settlement.

According to Isabel Márquez Ulloa, CITMA representative in Florida, these young people participated in a national workshop on the implementation of the Mi Costa Project, with the aim of strengthening their professional training and their social commitment to the care of the ecosystem, as they are expected to contribute to transmit this knowledge in their community, one of the most threatened by rising sea levels in southern Cuba.

A classroom annex of the Municipal Center for Capacity Building to strengthen citizen and coastal resilience to the impact of rising seas is planned to operate in the Playa Florida elementary school as part of the program of the international project Mi Costa, an initiative that contributes to the State Plan to confront climate change based on a multidisciplinary scientific basis.
