Florida, Sep. 11 – In the municipality of Florida, the application of the Pneumosil vaccine to infants born from January 1st to June 30th of the current year and to those born in the month of July began, with the objective of protecting them against the 10 main serotypes of invasive pneumococcal disease, the most widely circulating.
In this campaign, more than 200 infants of the aforementioned ages will be immunized and will receive three doses of the anti-pneumococcal vaccine: the first at two months of age; the second at four months; and at 11 months, another dose will be administered to reinforce the effect of the drug.
Doctor Naida del Pilar Prendes Caballero, responsible for the immunization program in the municipality of Florida, informed that the vaccination is carried out in the two polyclinics of the territory, where the parents must come with the child’s vaccination record card.
The specialist said that the Pneumosil vaccine will have a great impact on the health of our children, because it will reduce the number of medical attention for conditions such as pneumonia, otitis media and meningitis, and will also reduce the number of admissions for these causes.
This and other vaccination campaigns that benefit Floridian infants are the subject of a report by journalist Mayelin Baryolo Rodríguez.
