Rice fry planting campaign restarted in South Florida rice fields (+Post)

Florida, Aug. 20 – The Unidad Empresarial de Base (UEB) Molino Arrocero (Rice Mill), of the Empresa Provincial de Granos Ruta Invasora (Provincial Grain Company), restarted in the municipality of Florida the second fry cultivation campaign of this year, with the use of about 20 hectares of land dedicated to rice production.

After concluding the recent cereal harvest, work is being done on pumping water to fill four terraces that will receive more than six million cyprinid larvae, including varieties of carp, tench, clarias and tilapia, when they reach the expected size will be distributed in different reservoirs in the Camagüey territory.

This type of activity has been part of the productive diversification program of the Florida rice mill unit for three years, with favorable results in the promotion of aquaculture and food production, in addition to bringing economic benefits for the entity’s workers.

The cultivation of fry in several areas for rice production in the town of San Antonio is carried out under an agreement with the Camagüey Fishing Company, and is a practice used in different countries around the world, including those with high economic development and recognized as powers in the planting, harvesting and marketing of the cereal.
