Florida, July 17 – On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the death of the National Poet of Cuba, Nicolás Guillén Batista, the activity Lecturas de Verano (Summer Readings) took place at the Centro de Documentación e Información Pedagógica (CDIP) of Florida, an action included in the Guillén Day that is celebrated in the country to keep alive in the new generations the literary and social legacy of this Cuban intellectual.
Teachers and methodologists of the different educational levels that develop in the CDIP the educational and methodological training with a view to the next school year appreciated the words of the researcher María Antonia Fonte Alzugaray, president of the Union of Historians of Cuba in Florida related to the poet.
The historian made a remembrance of Nicolás Guillen and presented for the occasion the note that the Cuban intellectual dedicated to students and teachers of the former Pablo Rojas Rivero School in Florida, written from the restaurant of the Hotel Versalles in Santiago de Cuba on August 22, 1978.
The specialists of the Municipal CDIP took the opportunity to recognize the History teachers and their methodologist Odalys Matamoros in connection with the national day for the Cuban Historian’s Day, promoted Guillén’s bibliography in the institution and recommended the reading of some of his emblematic poems.
The Summer Readings activity will have its next meeting on Thursday, July 18 and will be dedicated to the work of Raúl Gómez García, the poet of the centenary.
