Activities for the National Day of the Cuban Historian began in Florida (+Post)

Florida, June 19 – Members of the Union of Historians of Cuba (UNHIC) in the municipality of Florida participated in the opening ceremony of the national day for the Day of the Cuban Historian that began throughout the country to coincide with the 119th anniversary of the death of General Máximo Gómez Báez, a brilliant military strategist who fought in the Liberation Army during the independence wars of the 19th century.

The opening ceremony took place at the Municipal Museum and was attended by representatives of cultural institutions and historians of the territory; María Antonia Fonte Alzugaray, president of the UNIHC in Florida welcomed those present and alluded to the commemorations planned this year for the day and the actions that will be developed in the province of Camagüey on the occasion of the anniversary.

The cultural promoter, Odranuel Escobar, interpreted anthological themes of the extensive repertoire of Silvio Rodriguez and Aleida Suarez Rosell, director of the municipal school of the Party in Florida, had words of praise for the Floridian historians on the occasion of the day.

The main event of this day will be held in Villa Clara on July 1, coinciding with the date of 1935, when the ethnologist, journalist and patriot Emilio Roig de Leuchsenring was granted the status of Historian of the City of Havana, and will be extended until July 31 to honor his successor Eusebio Leal Spengler.
