Activities announced in Florida to commemorate World Bee Day

Florida, May 16 – Several activities are planned in the municipality of Florida to welcome the International Day of Bees, with the purpose of highlighting the natural, economic, environmental and productive transcendence of this insect.

Ana Margarita González Sáez, head of the Florida brigade in Camagüey’s Beekeeping Base Business Unit (UEB), said that the next one will be the participation in the cultural meeting Baúl de los Sueños, at the Rubén Martínez Villena Municipal Library; while on Saturday, May 18, bees will be the central theme in the children’s games of the José Martí Park Socio-cultural Project, reflection of our Identity.

The same official assured that they are working on the organization of a gala tribute to receive the ephemeris of the world day dedicated to honey producers, while the expo-sale of varied products of the beehive is maintained in the portal of the Floridian Art Gallery.

The brigade of beekeepers of the territory, integrated by 17 private beekeepers and two entities of the cooperative and state system, respectively, will give the best welcome to the date by remaining in the productive vanguard of the province in the current stage.

May 20th was declared World Bee Day by the United Nations to raise awareness of the importance of pollinators, the threats they face and their contribution to sustainable development, and to protect these insects, so they can make a significant contribution to solving problems related to the world’s food supply and ending hunger in underdeveloped countries.
