Combatientes de Girón dialogan con jóvenes estudiantes floridanos

Florida, April 13 – An encounter with history took place at the Camilo Cienfuegos school for young people and adults, where students and teachers talked with the Floridians Justo Martínez Veliz and Ciro Martín Delgado, protagonists of the Cuban epic at Playa Girón, the first great defeat of Yankee imperialism in Latin America.

During the meeting, the protagonists of the feat described the experiences lived during those glorious hours on April 17, 18 and 19, 1961 at Playa Giron and narrated some of the experiences of the war and the bravery of the young combatants, among them, the Floridian Rolando Valdivia Fernandez, who lost his life in the line of duty.

The event highlighted the foresight of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, who made possible the rapid mobilization of different combat battalions made up of militiamen and members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, who defeated the mercenaries in less than 72 hours.

The encounter with history developed at the Camilo Cienfuegos School for Youth and Adults in the city of Florida is one of the actions that this educational institution has programmed to commemorate the 63rd anniversary of the victory of Giron.
