Aquaculture in Florida: bastion of fishing and stocking of fingerlings

Florida, March 22.- Fishing brigades from the municipalities of Vertientes, Guáimaro and Florida develop a bastion in the Muñoz dam to take advantage of the low volumes of water in that reservoir to collect the largest amount of biomass possible, as reported by Alexey Almanza Cervantes, director of Aquaculture in the territory.

The manager said that up to two tons of fish are collected daily at the dam to be processed in the industry and destined for social consumption, to organizations such as Public Health and Education, and to other companies in the territory, in Céspedes and Vertientes.

For their part, the workers at the La Misión farm, located in the neighboring Carlos Manuel de Céspedes municipality and belonging to the Florida Aquaculture Fisheries, have planted 24 hectares of fingerlings with varieties of cyprinids, provided by the Alevi-Cuba provincial center.

Company executives reported that in the final days of March they intend to remove five to six million fingerlings to distribute them in the different reservoirs of the territory and guarantee growth in the volumes of the species to be captured in coming months.

The more than 10 breeders of the La Misión farm belonging to it aspire to sow a total of 23 million fingerlings during its five cycles this year, a figure that would allow the efficiency indicators to be resumed and place the Camagüey Aquaculture Fisheries among the first of its type in the country and ensure greater availability of fish to meet its commercial commitments.
