Eduardo Leyva, a farmer taking firm steps in the current situation

Florida, February 5 – Farmer Eduardo William Leyva Batista, from the Amparo Carriera Montes Credit and Services Cooperative (CCS) in the municipality of Florida, is an example of what is required on a farm today to overcome limitations, advance in productive diversification, and maintain the social contribution of the region’s farmers.

Known as «El Pastor» (The Shepherd) in his community, William Leyva and his family farm just over a caballeria (approximately 1.7 acres) of land where they promote milk and beef production, cultivate fruit trees, are working to enter the beekeeping industry, maintain a carpentry workshop, and have a future project to add biogas production as an energy source for domestic use.

On his farm, El Maná, located a few kilometers from the city of Florida, this affable man, always willing to help others, effectively employs science and innovation to improve his overall results. This includes the use of Wassan rational grazing with electrified fences, solar energy for heating water for personal hygiene, and novel cattle breeding methods.

With 36 head of cattle in his herd, Eduardo Wiliam Leyva Batista, a farmer from Florida and member of the Amparo Carriera Montes Agricultural Production Cooperative (CCS), exceeded his milk production target for January. He also contributed several Siboney cattle for genetic improvement on other farms in the region, and, due to his productive efficiency, earned the right to legally slaughter cattle in 2025.

Among the growth aspirations of this producer from the Advanced Movement in the anapista sector of Florida is also the desire to expand his work area, by requesting idle lands that border his property with the purpose of growing in the cultivation of coconut, avocado, mango, banana and guava.
