Florida, 12 sep.- The program of planting and harvesting cereals with own effort, known as Arroz Popular, became the main alternative for obtaining grain in the municipality of Florida, after the loss of guarantees of resources and technological packages to boost plantations.
Dozens of usufructuarios and collectives linked to the agricultural sector and the sugar system of the territory today carry on their back, with their own logistical and financial support, the planting of this food, on the basis of contracts and obligations with the State which guarantee the collection of a part of these productions for sale to the population and social consumption in hospitals, educational institutions and reception centres for vulnerable persons.
According to sources accredited in the Agroindustrial Company of Grains Ruta Invasora currently the agrarians included in the variant of sowing of Arroz Popular through entities such as Agropecuaria Florida, Azucareras Argentina and Agramonte, the Granja Maraguán, the Basic Unit of Cooperative Production Rodolfo Ramírez and the Molino Libertad, accumulate more than 1800 hectares planted with cereal.
This figure, controlled in the books of Florida, has different purposes, although all will meet the food demands of the population of the municipality, the province and the country.
