Tribute at Florida Museum to the fighter Calixto Morales Hernández on the anniversary of his death

Florida, August 5.—A moving tribute was paid to Calixto Morales Hernández, a Granma expeditionary and martyr of the Cuban Revolution, at the Florida Municipal Museum on the 12th anniversary of his death. Historians and researchers attended an event commemorating the life and legacy of this distinguished figure.

Local researchers Margarita Fernández, María Antonia Fonte Alzugaray, and Lisney Gómez offered in-depth presentations on his revolutionary career and highlighted his courage and commitment to the independence cause. Their presentations highlighted little-known anecdotes about Morales Hernández, which enriched the historical knowledge of those attending.

The museologists also focused their talks on key moments in Calixto Morales Hernández’s life, from his involvement in the fight against Fulgencio Batista’s tyranny to his participation in the Granma expedition. They also emphasized his humility, discipline, and absolute dedication to the Revolution, qualities that made him an example for new generations.

The museum has consolidated its role as a cultural center with a varied program this summer; from temporary exhibitions to workshops and talks, the institution attracts visitors of all ages, and the event honoring Calixto Morales Hernández is part of its social mission, which seeks to preserve and disseminate local history.

The success of this tribute to the founder of the 26th of July Movement in Florida reflects the Municipal Museum’s commitment to promoting historical memory. In their remarks, Margarita, Lisney, and María Antonia honored a martyr and also inspired those present to delve deeper into their study of revolutionary figures.

With more activities planned for the coming weeks, the Museum consolidates itself as a cultural reference in the province, combining education, history and entertainment in a single space.
