In Florida a commemorative day in honor of José Martí

Florida, May 15 – 130 years after José Martí’s fall in combat, the General Directorate of Education in Florida is holding a commemorative day in honor of Cuba’s National Hero, one of the most important figures of political, literary and independence thinking in Latin America in the 19th century.

Children, youngsters and teenagers will be the protagonists of special matinees, knowledge meetings, lectures on Marti’s thought and plastic arts exhibitions to pay tribute to the leader of the Golden Age; there will also be informative panels, the screening of the film Martí, el ojo del canario, by Cuban filmmaker Fernando Pérez, and the meeting of scientific societies with the study of the life and work of the author of Ismaelillo.

Literary talks, promotion of Martí’s works and the contest at grassroots level Reading Martí are other proposals scheduled to honor the author of the Versos Sencillos, along with the conference Martí’s Anti-imperialism on Friday, May 16 at the municipal meeting of school libraries to be held at the Center for Documentation and Pedagogical Information (CDIP).

On the other hand, children from the three take-care centers of the municipality, dedicate songs and poems to the man of the Golden Age in the activities organized by these institutions for the ephemeris.
