Havana, June 2.- Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, highlighted on Twitter today the progress of the anti-COVID-19 vaccination process, in which one million 71 thousand 41 people have received at least one dose of some of the most advanced vaccine candidates developed in the country.
The Foreign Minister stressed that the health intervention with Soberana 02 and Abdala reaches 98 percent in health workers, BioCubaFarma and other risk groups, and emphasized that the country’s effort is already consolidated.
“The intervention with our vaccine candidates against # COVID19 reaches 98% in Health workers, @BioCubaFarma and other risk groups. With the vaccination of 1,071,041 people with at least one dose, the country’s effort is consolidated ”, wrote the head of diplomacy in the Antillean nation.
The vaccination process against COVID-19 in Cuba has included the clinical trials of the vaccine candidates themselves, the intervention studies and the health intervention that is developed in risk groups and territories.
The capital of the country, a territory of greater epidemiological complexity, advances in this last exercise, which already includes the municipalities of Regla, Guanabacoa, East Havana, San Miguel del Padrón, Boyeros, Arroyo Naranjo and Cotorro.
In Matanzas and Santiago de Cuba, the intervention began on May 31, in the territories with the highest incidence of infections, which in the former are Cárdenas, Colón and the main municipality; and in the second, Contramaestre, Palma Soriano, San Luis and Songo-La Maya.
On the other hand, in the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud, 97.7 percent of the planned total has already been vaccinated.
As it emerged this Tuesday at the meeting of the Temporary Work Group of the Cuban Government for the prevention and control of COVID-19, an intervention study was also approved with the vaccine candidate Soberana Plus for convalescent patients who are health workers in La Havana and Matanzas.
In addition, the Phase II clinical trial of the vaccine candidate Soberana 01 is being evaluated by the regulatory authority; and the Phase II clinical trial of the Soberana 01 and Soberana 02 vaccine candidates for pediatric ages.
The Minister of Public Health, Dr. José Ángel Portal Miranda, has stated that according to forecasts, by the end of August this year 70 percent of the population will be vaccinated against COVID-19.
