February 2026 – An excessive surge in the price of basic necessities is currently impacting the people of Florida, in blatant violation of the price caps established by the government for the entire country.
Before the helpless gaze of workers and those in the most vulnerable sectors of society, unscrupulous merchants are creating narratives and using the current energy crisis as a pretext to raise the prices of essential items such as bread, oil, chicken, rice, and sausages, as well as others not included in the official price list.
The «every man for himself» mentality cannot and should not be the permitted behavior under these circumstances. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the government and its economic inspection and control bodies to intensify the fight against the illegality and recklessness of those who profit from greed and a lack of solidarity.
In this confrontation, the participation of the people through timely reporting, the role of the delegates of People’s Power in the neighborhoods, the decisive action of the justice system and law enforcement, and prevention and alerts as tools for containment are also crucial.
Nothing justifies goods acquired or stored months ago suddenly reaching double or even triple their initial cost, in a mathematical operation riddled with speculation and a desire for quick enrichment at the expense of the desperation and needs of ordinary people.
It is also contradictory that, while the entire world is organizing to send the Cuban people free donations of food and products to alleviate the impact of the imperialist blockade, it is our fellow countrymen who are driving the exorbitant price increases in pursuit of superlative profits.
The alarm is also directed against self-employed workers, micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), and Local Development Projects in the non-state sector that are preventing the people from exercising their right to purchase goods through electronic payment gateways, violating the law at a time when obtaining physical cash at bank branches is difficult.
The Cuban people’s determination to resist and prevail, under the slogan «Homeland or Death,» must serve not only to defeat the attempted genocide imposed by the White House; it also rises up to confront those who, from within the country, promote actions that sow uncertainty and discouragement among the people of Florida.
In the war we are waging together today for the sovereignty and dignity of our entire nation, speculative pricing, personal ambition, and the violation of others’ rights have only one name: Immorality and treason!
