Florida, Feb. 3 – Delegates present at the 26th Ordinary Session of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power in Florida unanimously approved a public declaration on Saturday condemning and rejecting the latest aggression by the United States government against the Cuban people. They considered it an affront to the country’s sovereignty and a genocidal attempt to destroy the Revolution by worsening living conditions and exacerbating the suffering of the masses.
The statement from the highest body of the State and local government referred to the Executive Order signed by President Donald Trump, which pressures third countries to block oil supplies to Cuba and threatens to impose tariffs on products from those who violate this infamous imperial decree.
During their plenary session, the representatives of the people of Florida continued the day’s agenda with a debate on the shortcomings in compliance with Resolution 111 regarding the functioning of the banking process.
The discussions on the topic called for greater control, organization, and responsiveness to the problems and demands of workers, retirees, and other citizens related to the use of payment gateways, cash deposits in banks by non-state sector actors, and malfunctions in the ATMs of the Banco de Crédito y Comercio (BANDEC).
The evaluation of the response to complaints and requests from the residents of Florida during 2025, as well as the trends in crime and social indiscipline at the close of the fourth quarter of that year, were also included on the agenda of the ordinary session of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power held this Saturday.
According to reports, the territory has shortcomings in crime prevention and policing efforts, gaps in administrative and community oversight, and serious indiscipline in the actions of many families regarding the supervision, protection, and upbringing of their children. The 1,200 young people in Florida over the age of 16 who currently lack updated identity documents were cited as an example.
The government debate at the aforementioned meeting also included a report on sports activities carried out during the previous year. This report, prepared by the Sports Sector and other stakeholders, calls for the restoration of facilities dedicated to mass participation in physical activity, support for reaching grassroots levels and participating in higher-level events, ongoing incentives for professionals and technicians in the sector, and public recognition for their daily dedication in every mission and location where they work.
The most recent ordinary session of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power in Florida also heard the Accountability Report from the Argentina People’s Council and expressed its satisfaction with the annual evaluation of the officials currently holding the Vice Presidency and Secretariat positions within that local body.
Likewise, the delegates of the People’s Power unanimously approved the replacement of Ormandys Rodríguez Sánchez as Mayor of Florida and his definitive removal from the local government, citing serious violations of the Code of Ethics committed during his tenure as a member of the Revolution and the State in the territory.
On the same topic of personnel changes, the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power of Florida approved the inclusion of new members on its Municipal Administration Council.
In summarizing the ordinary meeting of the highest body of people’s power in this Camagüey district, Misleydis Ramírez Nuñez, a member of the Municipal Bureau of the Party, called for defending the achievements of the Revolution in all areas, facing new internal and external challenges with intelligence and loyalty, and moving forward based on unity, commitment, popular control, and the will to win, learned as an enduring legacy of the eternal Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.
